Full Terrain Vehicle (FTV™)

Torvec’s introduction of the FTV™ is a pioneering concept, a tracked vehicle with truly unique capabilities in speed, size, handling, maneuverability, and comfort.

With the Full Terrain Vehicle (FTV™), Torvec introduces a completely new, innovative work vehicle that will revolutionize the automotive industry, particularly in developing countries that do not have modern road infrastructure. Moreover, this new vehicle will have multiple applications for off-road vehicle use required by agriculture, utilities, security, forestry, rescue, and construction, among others.

FTV Patent Sketch
From U.S. Patent #6,135,220

The FTV™ steers as easily as a truck through the use of a steering wheel. The steering is accomplished by changing the relative speeds of the two tracks. For example, when moving straight forward, both tracks are moving at the same speed; when turning, the inside track slows down while the outside track speeds up proportionately. The vehicle turns in the direction of the slower track. Our unique steering mechanism separates the mechanical function of driving the vehicle forward for high speed, from the steering function, as needed. The two functions operate independently and simultaneously.

This vehicle can achieve the high-speed capabilities (up to 60 mph) of trucks and cars, but still maintains the high-traction capabilities of tracked vehicles. The FTV™ is a rubber tracked vehicle that, by design, is environmentally sensitive since it has low ground pressure (less than 2.0 PSI) and does not damage paved road surfaces or leave ruts in unpaved roads like current wheeled vehicles. The FTV™ can traverse almost any terrain at relatively high speeds and has tremendous stability in uneven terrain.

The FTV™'s payload capacity of 2000 lbs increases commercial uses, and the FTV™ can tow up to 8000 lbs, which enhances agricultural applications. The vehicle is maneuverable, pivoting 360° on its center. Traction surpasses that of 4WD on any terrain, and the patented Steer-Drive is not used in any other track vehicle (most others employ either traditional "skid steering" or hydrostatics).

At present, the need for a vehicle like the FTV™ remains unfulfilled, and this significant market opportunity is not being addressed. Torvec will take a leadership role in carving out a profitable new niche in the automotive market with the revolutionary FTV™.
