The
1940's
The
1940's saw Gleasman apply his considerable technical
and creative skills to work in support of the
war effort. Inventions such as the Bendix fuel
injection system for the B-29 bomber, and work
on proximity fuses for anti-aircraft artillery,
thrust young Gleasman into the limelight. The
automotive engineering world sat up and took notice
as Vernon was awarded patents for vane hydraulics
pump motors, multiple disc clutches for automatic
transmissions, and the Bendix starter for diesel
engines.
