The
1930's
The
decade of the 1930's further refined Vernon's
focus on practical solutions to design issues.
The Great Depression and its devastating effect
on farm life in the U.S. provided ample opportunity
for Gleasman to put his genius to work on modifying
farm vehicles to cope with snow, mud, rocks, and
extreme conditions. It was in this period that
the evolution of vehicles for heavy loads began
to take shape by converting 1-1/2 ton trucks to
carry 7-ton loads.
