TORVEC AGAIN TEAMS WITH ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY’S FORMULA SAE RACING TEAM

May 4, 2009

We at Torvec would like to congratulate RIT’s Formula SAE Team on a wonderful unveiling and demonstration at RIT’s Imagine Festival this past weekend.

Each year a new car has to be designed and fabricated from scratch. These FSAE cars cost upwards of $100,000+ to make every year and hit 0-60 MPH in approx. 3.6 sec. rivaling the 638HP ZR1 Corvette! The list of items that had to be designed are impressive and here are a few:

  • Custom Chassis
  • Custom Carbon Fiber Body
  • Custom Brakes
  • Custom Suspension
  • Custom Electronic Launch Control
  • Custom Speed Encoders for Braking & E-Launch Control
  • Custom Drive Sprocket & Chain
  • Custom Wheels
  • Custom Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel
  • Custom IsoTorque® Differential

Over the past week members of the F17 Team worked around the clock, assembling and polishing the F17. With hundreds of spectators in attendance, the F17 preformed beautiful, and looked spectacular at its debut.

Torvec is very happy to continue its relationship with RIT and wish the team great success in the SAE competition in Detroit. Last year was a heart breaker in Detroit, where RIT was poised to finish in 1st or 2nd, but a loose radiator cap caused engine failure in the most heavily weighted part of the competition knocking them out of contention.

This year the car is even faster and handles better. The Judges at these events are automotive engineers, and many of the students will be future automotive engineers, and exposing the IsoTorque® to them is invaluable.

We want to wish RIT and the F17 Team, the best of luck in Detroit in the coming weeks.
